Discover the seven most important things we know about Onimusha: Way of the Sword, before you buy the game. Let’s discuss its gameplay, difficulty, length, and what critics are saying about Capcom’s highly anticipated samurai action adventure.

Capcom is finally bringing back one of its most beloved action franchises with Onimusha: Way of the Sword. After years of fan demand, the legendary samurai series is returning on 4th September 2026, with modern visuals, refined combat mechanics, and a fresh take on the formula that made the original games so memorable. Early reviews and hands-on impressions have provided plenty of details about what players can expect when they step into the role of Miyamoto Musashi.

While the full experience is for players to discover themselves, critics have highlighted several key aspects of the game. So, if you are planning to purchase the game, let us look at these Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword before diving into Capcom’s latest samurai adventure.

Combat Is the Biggest Strength

One of the most important Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword is that its combat system has received widespread praise. Reviewers consistently describe battles as satisfying, skill-based, and rewarding. The game encourages players to master timing rather than relying on button mashing, and this creates encounters that feel tense and engaging throughout the adventure.

The return of the iconic Issen counterattack mechanic has been particularly well received. Perfectly timed strikes can instantly turn the tide of battle, rewarding players who carefully study enemy movements. Parries, deflections, and counterattacks all play major roles, and this is what gives combat a level of depth that many critics consider one of the game’s greatest achievements.

Challenging But Not Frustrating

Among the many Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword, its approach to difficulty stands out as a major talking point. Before launch, many players wondered whether Capcom would fully embrace the Soulslike formula. According to reviews, the game might share similarities modern action titles but remains more accessible than some of the genre’s toughest titles.

Enemies can be dangerous, and bosses demand concentration, but reviewers describe the challenge as fair rather than punishing. Success comes from understanding the combat system, learning enemy patterns, and reacting appropriately during battle. This balance helps the game appeal to both longtime action fans and newcomers looking for a rewarding experience.

Boss Fights Are a Highlight

Another major entry on the list of Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the quality of its boss encounters. Critics repeatedly point to these battles as some of the best moments in the entire game.

Each boss reportedly introduces unique mechanics and attack patterns that require players to adapt their strategies. Rather than feeling like larger versions of standard enemies, bosses provide memorable tests of skill that make full use of the combat system. Combined with dramatic visuals and cinematic presentation, these encounters leave a lasting impression on you and often serve as the centerpiece of the adventure.

Expect Around 20-30 Hours of Content

Players curious about campaign length might be pleased with another one of the major Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Reviews suggest that the main story takes approximately 20 hours to complete, while players who engage with side activities and optional content can expect closer to 25–30 hours.

This puts the game in a comfortable middle ground between shorter action titles and massive open-world experiences. So if you don’t have to time to immerse yourself in a 60–100-hour adventure, this might be good news for you.

Exploration Is More Divisive

Not every aspect of the game has earned universal praise. One of the more controversial Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword involves its exploration systems.

The game introduces larger environments and optional activities that encourage players to move beyond the main story path. Some critics appreciate the additional freedom and opportunities for world-building, while others feel that exploration occasionally disrupts the pacing that was established already by the excellent combat encounters.

As a result, exploration remains one of the few elements that has divided reviewers. However, it all comes down to individual preferences.

Capcom Has Delivered a Cinematic Experience

One of the most frequently discussed Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword is its impressive presentation. Built using Capcom’s RE Engine, the game features detailed environments, high-quality character models, and visually striking cutscenes.

Many reviewers compare the experience to classic samurai cinema. Dramatic camera angles, expressive facial animations, and atmospheric environments help create a world that feels both authentic and fantastical. The game’s version of Miyamoto Musashi has also received praise for his personality and presence, helping carry the game’s narrative from beginning to end.

Enemy Variety Has Drawn Criticism

The final yet important one on the list of Things We Know About Onimusha: Way of the Sword concerns enemy variety. While reviewers consistently praise the combat mechanics, many feel that regular enemy encounters become somewhat repetitive over time.

Bosses continue introducing fresh challenges throughout the campaign, but standard enemies reportedly appear too frequently and can start feeling familiar during the later stages of the game. Fortunately, critics generally agree that the strength of the combat system helps compensate for this issue. This you can be ensured that battles remain entertaining despite the repetition.

Before you buy, check out the seven most important things we know about The Blood of Dawnwalker, including the most important details you need to know about its unique RPG systems, choices, and world.

Before you buy, check out the seven most important things we know about The Blood of Dawnwalker , including the most important details you need to know about its unique RPG systems, choices, and world.

Ever since its reveal, The Blood of Dawnwalker has attracted attention for more than just its vampire dark fantasy setting. The game is being developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red veterans, including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Because of the talent behind the project, many RPG fans immediately put it on their watchlist.

However, The Blood of Dawnwalker. which releases on 3rd September, 2026, is not simply trying to become “The Witcher 4 before The Witcher 4.” Instead, Rebel Wolves is building a very different kind of role-playing game centered around player freedom, consequences, and a unique time-pressure system. As more details emerge, it is becoming clear that this may be one of the most ambitious RPGs in years.

Here are the seven most important things we know about Blood of the Dawnwalker so far. Before you buy, make sure you read these points.

1. The 30-Day Time Limit Is Not a Real-Time Countdown

One of the biggest misconceptions players might have surrounding the game is its 30-day time limit. Many players initially assumed that The Blood of Dawnwalker would constantly rush them forward with a ticking clock. But that is not how the system works.

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, time functions more like a resource than a countdown. Players have 30 days and 30 nights to save Coen’s family, but the clock only advances when you perform major story actions, complete important quests, or make significant decisions. Simply exploring the world, talking to people, or wandering through the wilderness does not consume time. The developers have described it as spending time rather than losing time.

2. Time running out Does Not Mean Game Over

One of the most interesting things we know about The Blood of Dawnwalker is that running out of time does not automatically end your adventure.

If Coen fails to save his family before the deadline expires, the story continues. It has been confirmed that there are consequences, but players are not greeted with a traditional “Game Over” screen. Instead, the narrative adapts to the outcome of your actions, and the rescue mission becomes a revenge mission.

3. It Uses a Narrative Sandbox Instead of a Traditional Main Quest

Another major feature that separates the game from most modern RPGs is what the developers call a “narrative sandbox.”

Unlike traditional RPGs that constantly direct players toward the next objective, The Blood of Dawnwalker gives players a goal and allows them to decide how they want to achieve it. Quests can be completed in different orders, ignored entirely, or never discovered at all. Even inaction can have consequences, with the world reacting to decisions you make and opportunities you choose to ignore.

This design philosophy means the game focuses on player agency rather than following a rigid quest checklist.

4. You Can Challenge the Main Villain Very Early

Perhaps among the most surprising things we know about The Blood of Dawnwalker is that the game does not lock the final confrontation behind dozens of hours of story progression.

Once players have completed the opening portion of the game, they are free to pursue Brencis, the vampire lord who kidnapped Coen’s family. In theory, you can attempt to challenge him much earlier than most RPGs would allow; though winning the fight will obviously be next to impossible. Regardless, this level of freedom is extremely rare in modern open-world games. This is definitely among the most interesting things we know about The Blood of Dawnwalker, and also something that makes the game different.

5. The Entire Game Is About Preparing for That Showdown

While you can challenge Brencis early, as we discussed, doing so is unlikely to end well.

This is where the game’s structure becomes fascinating. Rather than forcing players through a linear campaign, The Blood of Dawnwalker allows them to decide how they want to prepare for the inevitable confrontation. You might spend your limited time gathering allies, uncovering secrets, weakening Brencis’ influence, sabotaging his operations, improving your abilities, etc.

Every quest, side activity, and decision can potentially become part of your strategy. Instead of being told exactly what to do, players are encouraged to build their own path toward victory. This freedom is one of the most unique aspects of The Blood of Dawnwalker and could make every playthrough feel dramatically different.

6. The Day and Night Cycle and Vampire System Changes Gameplay

The day-night cycle is not just a visual feature. Coen is a Dawnwalker, a being caught between humanity and vampirism. During the day, he relies more on traditional combat methods. At night, he gains access to powerful vampiric abilities and different gameplay options.

Rebel Wolves has suggested that the two periods can feel almost like different gameplay experiences. Certain opportunities may be easier to tackle during the day, while others become easier at night.

The Vampire System includes a moral dimension as well. Coen’s vampiric powers come with a cost. Feeding on humans makes him stronger, but players must decide how far they are willing to go to achieve their goals. The system is designed to force difficult choices rather than simply treating vampirism as a set of superpowers.

7. You Cannot Experience Everything in One Playthrough

Another one of the defining features and important things we know about The Blood of Dawnwalker is that completing the game is not the goal.

The developers have openly stated that there is more content than players can realistically experience within a single run. Since time is limited, every major decision carries an opportunity cost. Helping one character may mean ignoring another. Pursuing one storyline may prevent you from exploring a different path.

Rather than seeing this as a limitation, Rebel Wolves views it as a way to make choices meaningful and encourage replayability.

So, if you loved The Witcher 3, then this game might definitely be worth your time, especially if you love immersing yourself in RPGs with big open worlds.

Thinking about buying Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy? Here is what critics, players and our own early impressions say about the game. Let us see what sets it apart from previous Plague Tale games.

Thinking about buying Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy? Here is what critics, players and our own early impressions say about the game. Let us see what sets it apart from previous Plague Tale games.

If you’re purchasing Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy expecting another rat-infested stealth horror adventure similar to the games A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem, then Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy may surprise you. Let us look at what you should expect from the game in detail.

A Shift Toward Action-Adventure

The biggest change is the game’s overall direction. Resonance feels far closer to franchises like Uncharted and Tomb Raider than the stealth-focused survival adventures that made the previous Plague Tale games famous. Critics have repeatedly drawn comparisons to those action-adventure series, praising the game’s cinematic exploration, puzzle-solving, and treasure-hunting atmosphere.

Rather than constantly hiding from enemies and navigating between swarms of rats, players spend much more time exploring ruins, solving environmental puzzles, and sometimes engaging in direct combat.

For some fans, this will be a welcome evolution. Others may miss the tense horror and survival elements that defined the earlier entries.

Combat Is Surprisingly Enjoyable

One of the early highlights of the franchise is the combat. Sophia is far more capable in a fight than Amicia ever was, and the game embraces that difference. Sword combat feels responsive and satisfying, with parries, dodges, and aggressive melee encounters encouraging players to stay engaged rather than avoid conflict.

While some reviewers argue that the combat lacks depth compared to dedicated action games, most agree that it’s fun and accessible throughout the adventure.

From my early playtime, the combat mechanics have been one of the strongest aspects of the game.

Exploration Can Be Frustrating

While exploration plays a much larger role than in previous Plague Tale titles, it isn’t always perfect. Certain areas can feel a bit frustrating to navigate, and figuring out where the game wants you to go next can occasionally become frustrating.

That said, the focus on exploration is clearly intentional. Ancient ruins, hidden pathways, collectibles, and environmental puzzles are a major part of the experience, reinforcing the Tomb Raider and Uncharted comparisons that many reviewers have made.

Sophia Is a Strong Lead Character

Sophia was already a fan-favorite supporting character in Requiem, and so far she proves capable of carrying her own game.

She is confident, charismatic, and considerably more adventurous than previous Plague Tale protagonists. Many critics have highlighted Sophia as one of Resonance’s greatest strengths, with her personality helping to elevate an otherwise familiar action-adventure formula.

Even early on, she’s easy to like and remains one of the main reasons to keep pushing forward.

Visuals Continue the Series’ High Standards

Visually, Resonance is impressive. The environments are detailed, colorful, and often breathtaking, especially compared to the darker and gloomier settings of previous games. Critics have praised the game’s art direction, ancient Greek-inspired locations, and environmental design.

Whether you’re exploring ruins or dramatic coastal landscapes, the presentation is definitely going to stands out.

Not Quite the Plague Tale You Remember

Perhaps the most important thing that you should know, if you are thinking of buying, is that Resonance does not feel like a traditional Plague Tale game.

The series’ signature combination of stealth, horror, and overwhelming rat swarms takes a back seat here. Instead, Asobo has chosen to create a more conventional action-adventure experience focused on combat, exploration, puzzles, and cinematic storytelling.

That doesn’t necessarily make it a bad game. Unless you dive into the game, expecting a similar adventure.

Should you Buy?

Based on my first several hours with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, this feels less like a direct continuation of Innocence and Requiem and more like Asobo’s different take on an action-adventure game.

The combat is enjoyable, the visuals are excellent, and Sophia is a likable protagonist. Exploration can occasionally be frustrating, and longtime fans should be prepared for a significant departure from the stealth-heavy formula that defined the previous games.

The latest GTA VI gameplay reveal gives us an extended look at the game. It showcases advanced AI, immersive world design, and stunning attention to detail, raising the question of whether Rockstar has set a new standard for open-world gaming.

The latest GTA VI gameplay reveal gives us an extended look at the game. It showcases advanced AI, immersive world design, and stunning attention to detail, raising the question of whether Rockstar has set a new standard for open-world gaming.

On August 27, 2026, Rockstar Games finally unveiled the long-awaited GTA VI Extended Look, giving players their clearest look yet at Vice City, Leonida, protagonists Jason and Lucia, and the game’s ambitious new systems. While the visuals impressed fans, much of the discussion quickly shifted toward something else: the incredible level of realism packed into every corner of the world.

From smarter NPCs to more reactive environments, GTA VI has sparked a debate that few games ever manage to generate. Has Rockstar created the most realistic open world in gaming history?

A World That Feels Truly Alive

One of the biggest takeaways from the GTA VI gameplay reveal was how alive Leonida appears to be. Streets are packed with people going about their daily lives, beaches are crowded with tourists, clubs are bustling with activity, and highways feel busier than anything seen in previous Rockstar titles.

What stood out wasn’t just the scale of the crowds, but the level of detail visible throughout them. The gameplay reveal showed countless NPCs populating the world simultaneously, helping Leonida feel far more vibrant and believable than previous entries. While Rockstar has yet to fully explain how the NPC systems work, the footage has convinced many players that GTA VI could deliver the most immersive open world the studio has ever created.

Many fans have already compared the leap in immersion to the jump from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to Grand Theft Auto IV, which revolutionized the series nearly two decades ago.

Smarter Systems, Bigger Consequences

The GTA VI gameplay reveal also hinted at major improvements to gameplay systems across the board. Law enforcement appears more dynamic, with police seemingly responding in more believable ways to criminal activity. Rather than functioning as a simple escalating wanted system, the game apparently places greater emphasis on investigation, pursuit, and realistic reactions.

Vehicle interactions also appear more detailed than ever before. Combined with improved animations and environmental interactions, these changes suggest Rockstar is attempting to create a world that reacts more intelligently to player actions.

While Rockstar has yet to reveal the full depth of these systems, what has been shown so far has generated significant excitement among fans.

Jason and Lucia Take Center Stage

Unlike previous entries, GTA VI appears to place a stronger focus on its protagonists’ relationship. Jason and Lucia are clearly at the heart of the story, with the reveal showcasing their partnership both during missions and throughout the wider narrative.

Many players have compared the duo to classic crime-story partners, and early impressions suggest Rockstar may be aiming for one of its most character-driven stories yet. Their dynamic has already become one of the most discussed aspects of the game, and as per reports, their relationship level, which is dependent on the player, is going to affect the ending.

Attention to Detail on Another Level

Rockstar has always been known for its obsession with detail, but GTA VI appears to push that philosophy further than ever before.

Fans quickly began dissecting the footage frame by frame, spotting countless small details throughout the world. Improved lighting, realistic weather effects, enhanced crowd animations, detailed interiors, wildlife, social media systems, and environmental interactions all contribute to a world that feels remarkably authentic.

What makes these details stand out is how naturally they blend together. Rather than feeling like isolated features, they appear to work together to create a more believable and immersive experience.

Can Realism Go Too Far?

Not everyone is convinced that more realism automatically makes for a better game.

After the GTA VI gameplay reveal, a few players have raised concerns that Rockstar may be pushing too heavily toward simulation, potentially sacrificing the fast-paced freedom that has always defined the GTA series. Others argue that realism works best when it enhances gameplay rather than restricting it.

For now, that debate remains largely theoretical. Until players get their hands on the game, it will be impossible to know whether these systems improve the experience or simply add complexity.

A New Standard for Open-World Games?

Even with those concerns and few minor criticisms, the reaction to the Extended Look has been overwhelmingly positive. Across social media, forums, and gaming communities, many players believe Rockstar is once again attempting to raise the bar for the entire industry.

The final verdict will have to wait until launch, but one thing is already clear: GTA VI is not aiming to be just another open-world game. This GTA VI gameplay reveal shows us Rockstar appears determined to create a world that feels more alive, reactive, and immersive than anything the studio has built before.

Whether it ultimately becomes the best or at least the most realistic open world ever made remains to be seen. But after the latest gameplay reveal, it is easy to understand why so many players believe Rockstar may be on the verge of setting a new benchmark for the genre.

CD Projekt Red unveils The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, revealing a new region, new weapon along with a free remaster upgrade.

CD Projekt Red unveils The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, revealing a new region, new weapon along with a free remaster upgrade.

CD Projekt Red has officially unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The expansion, which launches in 2027, marks the return of Geralt of Rivia in what is being described as a full-fledged third expansion for The Witcher 3.

The teaser offered fans their first look at Letten, a brand-new region that will serve as the setting for the upcoming adventure. Letten is apparently a land rich in rural traditions and folklore, but it hides a dark secret beneath its seemingly peaceful surface.

New Weapon Confirmed

One of the biggest reveals from the trailer was the introduction of a new weapon: the chain.

The chain is not just going to give Geralt additional combat options, but it is also designed to offer greater crowd-control capabilities during battles. CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that new mutagens will be added as part of the expansion, providing players with additional ways to customize Geralt’s abilities.

The chain is also a nod to the original The Witcher game, where it appeared in the famous opening cinematic. Songs of the Past marks the first time it will become a fully usable weapon in gameplay.

Dandelion Will Play A Major Role

CD Projekt Red has revealed that Letten is the homeland of Dandelion. According to information shared following the trailer reveal, Geralt travels alongside his longtime friend to assist him with a personal matter. What begins as a seemingly simple journey eventually uncovers a much darker threat lurking beneath the region’s surface.

Beyond that setup, the studio has remained largely silent regarding the expansion’s storyline, suggesting that more information will be revealed in the months ahead.

Free Witcher 3 Remaster Arrives in September 2026

Alongside the expansion reveal, CD Projekt Red also announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered.

Launching on September 29, 2026, the remaster will be available as a free upgrade for existing owners of The Witcher 3 on supported platforms. The updated version includes visual upgrades, gameplay improvements, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, updated monster behavior, a redesigned skill tree, new finishers, expanded photo mode features, and additional quality-of-life improvements.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that current owners of The Witcher 3 will receive access to both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no additional cost.

A Big Year Ahead For Witcher Fans

Along with the release window for Witcher 4, which is now stated to be 2028, the Gamescom presentation delivered two major surprises for fans of the franchise. Not only is Geralt returning in a brand-new expansion Witcher 3: Songs of the Past more than a decade after The Witcher 3 first launched, but players will also be able to revisit the acclaimed RPG through a substantial remaster later this year, without any additional cost!

With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered arriving on September 29 and Songs of the Past scheduled for release in 2027, it gives you time to start replaying the game again before you play the expansion.

The Witcher 3’s Legacy Remains Strong

The announcement has generated significant excitement not only because of the new expansion Witcher 3: Songs of the Past itself, but also because of what The Witcher 3 represents within the gaming industry. Originally released in 2015, the RPG is widely regarded as one of the most acclaimed and influential games ever made, earning hundreds of Game of the Year awards and maintaining a strong player base more than a decade after launch.

Its storytelling, quest design, characters, and world-building continue to be praised by both critics and players, while many newer RPGs are still compared against the standards set by Geralt’s third adventure. Even years after release, The Witcher 3 regularly appears in discussions about the greatest video games of all time.

Discover the top games that deserve a remake, from beloved RPGs from decades ago to iconic action adventures that could shine again with modern visuals and gameplay.

Discover the top games that deserve a remake, from beloved RPGs from decades ago to iconic action adventures that could shine again with modern visuals and gameplay.

The gaming industry has brought several beloved classics back through remakes, and few of them such as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Silent Hill 2 Remake has received a lot of praise from both players and critics.

However, a few legendary titles are still waiting for their turn. Some games remain incredible because of their storytelling, atmosphere, and gameplay ideas, yet aging visuals and mechanics make them harder for modern audiences to enjoy. Here are nine games that deserve a remake and could shine brighter than ever with today’s technology.

9. Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind remains one of the most influential RPGs ever made. Its fantasy world, deep lore, and unmatched freedom continue to captivate players decades after release. Just like the Oblivion Remake in 2025, a remake of Morrowind could preserve everything fans love about the original while modernizing its combat, animations, and visuals for a new generation.

8. Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas is widely regarded as one of the greatest role-playing games ever created. The Mojave Wasteland offers meaningful choices, memorable factions, and some of the best writing in gaming history. It is definitely one of the games that deserve a remake because modern technology could finally bring its ambitious vision to life without the technical limitations of the original release.

7. Deus Ex

Deus Ex revolutionized player choice and immersive storytelling when it launched in 2000. Its conspiracy-driven narrative feels just as relevant today as it did over two decades ago. However, many newer players might not have even heard of it, which is why it is definitely one of the games that should be remade with modern visuals. It could introduce a whole new audience to one of gaming’s most important classics.

6. Silent Hill 1

The original Silent Hill helped define psychological horror for an entire generation. Its eerie atmosphere, unsettling creatures, and emotional story remain unforgettable. With the success of Silent Hill 2, a remake of the first Silent Hill title could expand the town, enhance its terrifying environments, and remind players why this game was quite ahead of its time. It is definitely among the games that deserve a remake at the earliest!

5. Jade Empire

Jade Empire remains one of BioWare’s most underrated RPGs. Its martial arts-inspired world set in medieval China and unique morality system delivered a unique fantasy adventure unlike anything else on the market. It is one of the games that should be remade with modern visuals; because the level of detail and immersion it had is sometimes not even seen in today’s biggest RPGs.

4. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

The Witcher 2 is known for having one of the most ambitious branching narratives ever seen in an RPG. Its political intrigue, difficult choices, and memorable characters still hold up remarkably well. Many fans who started with The Witcher 3 never played the second one, and many who tried, could not get into it, because of the outdated visuals and mechanics. As we know that Witcher 1 Remake is already in the works, this makes Witcher 2 one of the games that deserve a remake for modern audiences as well.

3. Assassin’s Creed 1

The original Assassin’s Creed introduced Altaïr and laid the foundation for one of gaming’s biggest franchises. Players love the game for its no-nonsense approach. The game’s recreation of the Third Crusade remains impressive, but its mission structure as well as its mechanics has not aged particularly well. As one of the games that should be remade with modern visuals, a remake can not just introduce newer players but also expand its gameplay variety. Good news is that the game is already rumored to be in development!

2. Bloodborne

Bloodborne is often considered one of FromSoftware’s greatest achievements. Its gothic setting, fast-paced combat, and Lovecraftian horror created an unforgettable experience that still has a massive fanbase after years. Few games that deserve a remake generate as much demand from players as Bloodborne. This is why gamers wonder why it hasn’t received a remake yet.

1. Red Dead Redemption 1

The first Red Dead Redemption tells one of the most emotional stories ever seen in gaming. John Marston’s journey remains just as powerful today as it was in 2010, and its world is still beloved by millions of players. It is one of the games that should be remade with modern visuals, especially because the story takes place after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2. But if you play the game after playing RDR 2, the outdated visuals seem strange and you might need to keep reminding yourself that the story is set in the future!

Looking for games like GTA while waiting for GTA VI? Here are 7 open-world crime games worth playing.

Looking for games like GTA while waiting for GTA VI? Here are 7 open-world crime games worth playing.

With Grand Theft Auto VI currently scheduled for November 19, 2026, the wait is getting shorter, but there is still plenty of time. So if you are looking for other similar open worlds to explore or games like GTA VI, this list is for you.

If you are searching for games like GTA, however, simply picking any open-world action game will not do. The best alternatives capture at least some of what makes Grand Theft Auto special: detailed cities, driving, crime stories, side activities, freedom, memorable characters, or the sheer ability to cause absolute chaos. Here are seven worth checking out, ranked from the weakest fit to the strongest.

7. Saints Row (2022)

Released in 2022 and developed by Deep Silver Volition, Saints Row is a complete reboot of the series. You play as The Boss, building a criminal empire in Santo Ileso alongside three friends while taking on three rival factions: Los Panteros, the Idols, and Marshall Defense Technologies. The game combines shooting, driving, criminal ventures, customization and a large open world with a deliberately exaggerated tone.

The problem is that this Saints Row reboot feels like a weaker version of what the series had already done rather than a compelling new take on the formula. It certainly qualifies as one of the GTA alternatives you can play while waiting, but its characters and writing are nowhere near Rockstar’s strongest work, and its open world lacks the density that makes Liberty City or Los Santos memorable. It is worth considering if you want goofy criminal sandbox gameplay, but it lands at the bottom of this list because several other games offer a much stronger experience.

6. The Precinct

Released in 2025 by Fallen Tree Games, The Precinct takes one of the most interesting approaches to the GTA formula: here you play on the other side of the law. Set in Averno City in 1983, the game follows rookie police officer Nick Cordell Jr., who joins the city’s troubled police department while trying to uncover the truth surrounding his father’s death. You patrol the city, respond to crimes, chase suspects, make arrests and get involved in increasingly dangerous confrontations with its criminal gangs.

That makes The Precinct one of the more unusual GTA alternatives. But its top-down perspective and police-focused gameplay also make it fundamentally different from GTA, and you aren’t building your own criminal career or freely behaving like a criminal. Still, the dynamic crime system, vehicle chases and living city make it a fascinating choice for anyone who has ever wondered what GTA would be like if the entire game were built around playing as a cop.

5. Just Cause 3

Just Cause 3, developed by Avalanche Studios and released in 2015, follows Rico Rodriguez as he returns to his Mediterranean homeland of Medici to overthrow the dictator General Di Ravello. The game gives you an enormous open world filled with vehicles, weapons, military bases and destructible environments, while Rico’s grappling hook, parachute and wingsuit allow you to move through the world in ways that few other open-world games can match.

It stands on this list because it captures the freedom of GTA better than it captures its crime and character-driven side. There is an absurd amount of fun to be had simply experimenting with the world, destroying bases and creating ridiculous chains of destruction, but you aren’t getting the same kind of grounded crime drama, relationships or city life that define GTA. Think of it as the “what if GTA stopped caring about realism entirely and gave you a grappling hook?” option.

4. Mafia II

Released in 2010 and developed by 2K Czech, Mafia II follows Vito Scaletta, a war veteran who returns to Empire Bay and becomes involved with the city’s Mafia families while trying to escape his father’s debts and build a better life. Set between 1945 and 1951, the game combines a period crime story with driving, shooting, exploration and a detailed city filled with period architecture, cars, music and atmosphere.

Mafia II is recommended if you love games like GTA because it can scratch the itch for you if you like GTA primarily for its crime stories and characters. It is not nearly as much of a sandbox, and Empire Bay does not offer the same level of activities or gameplay as a Rockstar open world. But Vito’s journey, the relationship between Vito and Joe, and the game’s strong period atmosphere make it a very good choice if the criminal underworld is what attracts you to GTA in the first place. It is less “go anywhere and do anything” and more “live through a Mafia movie.”

3. Watch Dogs 2

Released in 2016 and developed primarily by Ubisoft Montreal, Watch Dogs 2 moves the series to the San Francisco Bay Area and introduces Marcus Holloway, a young hacker who joins DedSec after being wrongly profiled by the city’s ctOS system. Marcus can hack phones, vehicles, cranes, security systems, drones and other connected devices, allowing missions to be approached through stealth, hacking, driving or more direct combat.

This is one of the strongest GTA alternatives because it actually understands the appeal of living in a city that functions as a playground. San Francisco is filled with people, vehicles, buildings and systems that Marcus can manipulate, and the hacking mechanics create situations you simply cannot reproduce in GTA. Its lighter tone and hacker-focused story won’t appeal to everyone, but if what you want is a modern city where you can constantly experiment with the environment, Watch Dogs 2 is an excellent substitute.

2. Sleeping Dogs

Released in 2012 and developed by United Front Games, Sleeping Dogs puts you in the role of Wei Shen, a Hong Kong police officer who goes undercover inside the Sun On Yee Triad. Wei has to maintain his criminal identity while balancing his police work against his growing relationships with the people inside the organization. The game combines driving, shooting, parkour, criminal activities and an unusually deep hand-to-hand combat system inspired heavily by Hong Kong action cinema.

This might be the strongest choice on the list because Sleeping Dogs understands what makes GTA’s formula work while giving it an identity of its own. Hong Kong isn’t just a backdrop for missions. You can explore its streets, drive through its neighborhoods, take part in activities, interact with characters and get involved in the criminal world while constantly dealing with Wei’s undercover situation. United Front Games specifically emphasized the combination of melee combat, gunplay, driving and exploration when discussing the game’s design.

The undercover-cop premise also creates something GTA hasn’t given us: a protagonist who is simultaneously part of the criminal world and trying to bring it down. That creates genuine tension throughout Wei’s story, particularly as his relationships with the Triads become more complicated. Its combat remains one of its biggest advantages, and its combination of open-world crime, cinematic storytelling and martial arts makes it feel like much more than a GTA clone.

Honorable Mention – Grand Theft Auto IV

Released in 2008 and developed by Rockstar North and Rockstar Toronto, Grand Theft Auto IV follows Niko Bellic, an immigrant from Eastern Europe who arrives in Liberty City hoping to escape his past and pursue the American Dream. Instead, Niko gets dragged into debt, organized crime and a world of criminals, con artists and violent opportunists.

It might seem strange to put another GTA game on a list of games like GTA, which is why we put it as an honorable mention. GTA IV deserves a place here precisely because it is so often overlooked. GTA V has dominated the conversation for years, while the older PS2-era games Vice City and San Andreas benefit from nostalgia, GTA IV is ignored by many players. That is a shame because Liberty City is one of Rockstar’s most detailed worlds, and the game is packed with little touches that make it feel like somewhere Niko actually lives. You can watch television, use the internet, go bowling, play pool and darts, visit bars, take taxis, maintain friendships and simply wander around the city.

The story is also a major reason to revisit it. GTA IV is considerably more grounded than GTA V, and Niko’s journey is built around his past, his search for a better life and the consequences of trying to escape violence by becoming involved in more violence. So if it has been over a decade since you played GTA IV, or have never played it, now might be the time!

1. Cyberpunk 2077

Released in 2020 and developed by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 takes you to Night City, a huge futuristic metropolis where corporations, gangs, mercenaries and criminals fight for power. You play as V, a mercenary whose life takes a disastrous turn after a heist leaves them sharing their mind with the engram of Johnny Silverhand. Alongside its main story, the game gives you countless side jobs, vehicles to drive, weapons to collect, cyberware to install and districts to explore, giving Night City plenty to do beyond the main campaign.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is much more of an RPG, it can scratch many of the same itches. You can steal cars like you do in GTA, get involved with criminal gangs, take on mercenary jobs, explore a huge city and approach many situations through combat, stealth, hacking or different character builds. It also has the kind of detailed urban environment that makes simply wandering around worthwhile. If what you want from GTA is a massive modern city packed with crime, characters and things to discover, Night City is one of the best places to go while waiting for GTA VI.

REANIMAL: The Prisoner Review: Tarsier delivers another disturbing horror adventure with a haunting atmosphere, but few minor yet frustrating drawbacks hold it back

Tarsier Studios has returned to its disturbing world of Reanimal with its first DLC chapter titled The Prisoner, which released on 8th August, 2026. It feels like a natural continuation of the nightmare rather than a completely new experience. Set against a war-ravaged city, the DLC introduces two new protagonists, The Prisoner and The Soldier.

The early reception has been strongly positive. Steam currently lists the DLC as Very Positive, although a recurring complaint from players is its short runtime. Critics have similarly praised the atmosphere, visual storytelling, new mechanics and memorable horror encounters, while frequently wishing there were more of them.

For me, however, is an enjoyable but imperfect expansion that deserves both praise and criticism. Read more to find out!

A World Drowning in Darkness

The atmosphere is arguably the DLC’s greatest strength. REANIMAL: The Prisoner takes us through ruined streets, underground stations, devastated buildings and areas being torn apart by war. The setting which feels like the World War period feels even more hopeless than the base game, creating the impression that civilization itself is collapsing around these characters.

Several reviewers have praised this environmental storytelling. The trenches, ruined buildings and devastated streets act as an effective way of communicating the story without lengthy exposition. But there is a downside to all that darkness. Everything is extremely dark, sometimes to the point where simply travelling becomes frustrating. It may well be intentional, representing a world that is decaying into something even worse, but there were moments when I was struggling to see where I was going rather than feeling scared.

The audio design helps considerably. The soundscape knows when to stay quiet and when to make you feel that something terrible is approaching, particularly during the game’s chase sequences.

Familiar Gameplay with Some Excellent New Ideas

At its core, REANIMAL: The Prisoner sticks closely to the gameplay formula of the main game. You explore, solve environmental puzzles, avoid enemies and occasionally fight your way through dangerous situations.

The Prisoner’s camera is the most interesting addition. It can illuminate dark areas with its flash and temporarily stun enemies. The Soldier also gets a melee weapon later on, giving both characters slightly different abilities.

The problem is that progression can sometimes be frustratingly unclear. The DLC does not always tell you where to go or what you are supposed to do next. There were moments when I genuinely felt frustrated trying to figure out the intended route.

So there is a strange balance here: the game can be satisfying when you figure something out yourself, but wandering around aimlessly because the game failed to communicate its intention is considerably less fun.

The Horror Is At Its Best During the Chases

The flamethrower-wielding Soldier is one of the standout threats. Rather than simply throwing another enemy at you, Tarsier uses him to turn familiar environments into places you desperately want to escape. Multiple reviewers singled out this encounter as one of the DLC’s best moments.

And then comes my personal highlight: the final section with the gun-equipped bike.

It is easily the most fun part of the entire DLC. After all the slow exploration, darkness and tense encounters, suddenly tearing through the environment with a weapon turns the final stretch into a chaotic blast. It is the kind of sequence that makes you sit back and think, “Okay, this is awesome.”

Another Mystery, Not Another Explanation

Storytelling remains deliberately minimal. The Soldier and Prisoner receive little conventional exposition, and their purpose, history and relationship are left largely unexplained.

That is not necessarily a weakness. In fact, it is probably one of the reasons the world works. The ending continues that approach. Rather than giving us a neat conclusion, it leaves behind another mystery.

Final Verdict

REANIMAL: The Prisoner is a solid first chapter for Tarsier’s expanded story. It does not dramatically reinvent the formula. The expansion might have been as fun as the base game, but its unclear progression, excessive darkness and short runtime can be frustrating for some players.

But the atmosphere remains fantastic, the audio design is excellent, the war-torn setting is beautifully miserable. And among the positive aspects of the game, the flamethrower encounter is memorable, and the gun-bike finale is an absolute blast.

Most importantly, the ending gives us a mystery rather than simply closing the book. That makes me want to see what happens next.

Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, find out whether its beautiful world, combat, and wolf companion are enough to overcome its biggest shortcomings.

Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, find out whether its beautiful world, combat, and wolf companion are enough to overcome its biggest shortcomings.

Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, it is worth knowing exactly what kind of experience this action RPG offers. Developed by Game Freak, known for the Pokemon games, and published by Fictions, Beast of Reincarnation launched on August 4, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. As one of the notable games released in 2026, it immediately caught attention with its striking post-apocalyptic Japanese setting, mysterious world, and the promise of an emotional journey alongside a loyal wolf companion.

However, reviews and player impressions have been mixed. While the game has earned praise for its visuals and atmosphere, several aspects have divided players. Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, here are five important things to keep in mind.

1. The Story May Not Be as Emotional as You Expect

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Beast of Reincarnation is its story. The premise is certainly intriguing, presenting a world on the brink of collapse and a protagonist tasked with restoring hope. Unfortunately, many players feel the story never reaches the emotional heights suggested by its trailers.

Based on reviewers, and my personal experience, the opening struggles to build an immediate connection with the main character Emma, and several reviewers have noted that the supporting cast lacks memorable development as well. While the mystery surrounding the world keeps things interesting, the emotional payoff might not always justify the journey.

If story and character development are your biggest reasons for buying cinematic games, Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, it is worth knowing that this may not be its strongest feature.

2. Combat Is Fun, But It Doesn’t Always Stay Exciting

Combat is one of the better aspects of the game, but it also has its limitations.

The parry mechanics, special abilities, and fast-paced encounters make battles enjoyable during the opening hours. But it gets repetitive. According to reviewers, the combat doesn’t evolve enough as the adventure progresses. Enemy encounters can become repetitive, boss fights often rely on familiar attack patterns, and the overall sense of progression isn’t as rewarding as expected.

The combat isn’t bad by any means. It is responsive and mechanically solid. However, those expecting the same level of satisfaction found in genre-defining action RPGs may come away wanting more.

3. Koo Is Easily the Best Part of the Game

If there is one feature that almost everyone agrees on, it is Koo, the wolf companion.

Unlike many AI companions that simply follow the player around, Koo actively contributes hugely during combat, helps with exploration, and adds personality to the adventure. The bond between the protagonist and the wolf gives the game some of its most memorable moments.

For many players, Koo is the element that gives Beast of Reincarnation its own charm. The companion system feels polished, useful, and meaningful throughout the journey, making it one of the game’s biggest highlights.

Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, don’t overlook this feature, as it is arguably the game’s strongest selling point.

4. The World Looks Incredible but Exploration Can Feel Unrewarding

Visually, Beast of Reincarnation is impressive. The ruined landscapes, forests, abandoned settlements, and creature designs create a beautiful post-apocalyptic world. From a visual perspective, it stands out among several games released in 2026.

However, appearances don’t always translate into engaging exploration. Reviews have pointed out that exploring the world doesn’t consistently lead to memorable discoveries. Environmental storytelling is fairly limited, side activities are sparse, and there are fewer meaningful surprises than many expected. While the scenery is often breathtaking, the world itself can feel surprisingly empty after spending more time with it.

For players who love exploring every corner of an open world, Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, it is important to know that exploration may not be as rewarding as its visuals suggest.

5. It Struggles to Establish a Truly Unique Identity

Perhaps the most common criticism is that Beast of Reincarnation doesn’t carve out a strong identity of its own. Throughout the adventure, players may notice influences from several popular action RPGs. The combat, progression systems, world design, and overall structure often feel familiar rather than innovative. While borrowing ideas isn’t necessarily a problem, many critics believe the game doesn’t introduce enough original mechanics outside of its excellent wolf companion system.

That doesn’t make it a bad game. In fact, there is plenty to enjoy if you appreciate atmospheric action RPGs. However, those looking for a groundbreaking experience may find it difficult to see what truly separates it from other games in the genre.

What Platforms Is Beast of Reincarnation Available On?

Beast of Reincarnation is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is exclusive to current-generation platforms and is not available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch 1 or 2, despite Game Freak’s ties with Nintendo.

If you’re an Xbox or PC player, there’s even better news. Beast of Reincarnation launched day one on Xbox Game Pass, meaning Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can play it at no additional cost as part of their subscription. If you’ve been curious about the game but aren’t sure whether it’s worth buying permanently, Game Pass offers an excellent way to try it before deciding.

Conclusion: Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation

If you are planning to buy the game, Before You Buy Beast of Reincarnation, it is important to set realistic expectations. The game delivers impressive visuals, enjoyable combat, and one of the best companion systems seen in recent action RPGs thanks to Koo. At the same time, its story, exploration, and overall originality have received mixed reactions from both critics and players.

On a personal note, this was one of the games that had been on my radar for months. I was genuinely looking forward to playing it and jumped in through Xbox Game Pass right few hours after release on launch day. Unfortunately, I couldn’t even make it through the first hour. Despite its beautiful visuals and decent combat, the experience felt too generic and lacked the soul needed to keep me invested, at least for me.

Discover the 7 important Witcher 2 characters missing from The Witcher 3 and why their absence left several storylines and political arcs feeling incomplete.

Discover the 7 important Witcher 2 characters missing from The Witcher 3 and why their absence left several storylines and political arcs feeling incomplete.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is often praised for rewarding longtime fans with the return of beloved characters from the books such as Yennefer, Regis and Anna Henrietta. Yet, despite tying together many storylines from previous games, several important Witcher 2 characters never made the jump to the trilogy’s final chapter. Some were major political players, while others had the potential to shape the future of the Northern Kingdoms. Here are seven important Witcher 2 characters who were surprisingly missing from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

7. Aryan La Valette

Aryan La Valette is introduced during the siege of Castle La Valette at the beginning of The Witcher 2. As the eldest son of Marie Louisa La Valette, he belongs to one of Temeria’s most important and influential noble families. If Geralt chooses to spare him, Aryan survives the events of the prologue and lives beyond the game. Despite his importance and noble status, he never appears in The Witcher 3, making him one of the overlooked important Witcher 2 characters.

6. Cynthia

Cynthia is a Nilfgaardian sorceress who secretly serves Emperor Emhyr while infiltrating Philippa Eilhart’s inner circle. Calm, intelligent, and highly skilled in magic, she spends much of The Witcher 2 gathering valuable intelligence for the Empire. Considering The Witcher 3 revolves around Nilfgaard’s invasion of the Northern Kingdoms, Cynthia could have naturally returned as part of the Empire’s operations. Instead, one of the intriguing important Witcher 2 characters disappears entirely.

5. Prince Stennis

Prince Stennis is the son of King Demavend III and one of the rightful claimants to Aedirn’s throne. Throughout The Witcher 2, he becomes the center of political intrigue after being accused of murdering his father, and Geralt’s choices determine whether he survives. If spared, Stennis remains one of the few legitimate rulers left in the North. Despite that, he never appears in The Witcher 3, leaving one of the important Witcher 2 characters without any meaningful conclusion.

4. King Henselt

King Henselt is the ambitious ruler of Kaedwen and one of the most powerful monarchs featured in The Witcher 2. His military campaigns and political ambitions play a major role in the conflict between the Northern Kingdoms. Depending on Geralt’s decisions, Henselt can survive the events of the second game. Even so, he is completely absent from The Witcher 3, which is quite surprising considering Witcher 3 focuses on the political consequences of the Nilfgaardian war.

3. Anais La Valette

Anais La Valette is the daughter of Marie Louisa La Valette and a legitimate heir to Temeria’s royal bloodline. She is implied to be Foltest’s biological daughter thought it is never confirmed. Depending on Geralt’s choices, she can be rescued and entrusted to influential allies, giving hope for Temeria’s future after years of conflict. Since The Witcher 3 spends considerable time exploring Temeria’s occupation and resistance movement, many players expected Anais to play a meaningful role. Instead, another of the most politically important Witcher 2 characters is completely absent from the game.

2. Saskia

Known as the Virgin of Aedirn, Saskia inspires humans, elves, and dwarves to unite in the free city of Vergen. She is eventually revealed to be Saesenthessis, a rare golden dragon capable of taking human form, making her one of the most extraordinary characters in the entire Witcher universe. Her leadership and ideals made her central to one of The Witcher 2‘s two main story paths. Despite being among the most important Witcher 2 characters, if you spare her in the game, she never again appears in Witcher 3 in person.

1. Iorveth

No character is more noticeably missing from The Witcher 3 than Iorveth. The charismatic Scoia’tael commander is one of the two central companions in The Witcher 2, with an entire story path dedicated to his struggle for freedom of non-humans.

Fiercely loyal, morally complex, and immensely popular among fans, Iorveth played an important role as well as helped define the second game’s narrative. This is why CD Projekt Red did plan to include him in The Witcher 3, but his questline was ultimately cut during development, making him the most frustrating omission among all important Witcher 2 characters.

Will we see him in the upcoming DLC expansion or in Witcher 4? Let us hope!
