Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Gets First Trailer As Free Witcher 3 Remaster Announced!

CD Projekt Red unveils The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, revealing a new region, new weapon along with a free remaster upgrade.

CD Projekt Red has officially unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The expansion, which launches in 2027, marks the return of Geralt of Rivia in what is being described as a full-fledged third expansion for The Witcher 3.

The teaser offered fans their first look at Letten, a brand-new region that will serve as the setting for the upcoming adventure. Letten is apparently a land rich in rural traditions and folklore, but it hides a dark secret beneath its seemingly peaceful surface.

New Weapon Confirmed

One of the biggest reveals from the trailer was the introduction of a new weapon: the chain.

The chain is not just going to give Geralt additional combat options, but it is also designed to offer greater crowd-control capabilities during battles. CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that new mutagens will be added as part of the expansion, providing players with additional ways to customize Geralt’s abilities.

The chain is also a nod to the original The Witcher game, where it appeared in the famous opening cinematic. Songs of the Past marks the first time it will become a fully usable weapon in gameplay.

Dandelion Will Play A Major Role

CD Projekt Red has revealed that Letten is the homeland of Dandelion. According to information shared following the trailer reveal, Geralt travels alongside his longtime friend to assist him with a personal matter. What begins as a seemingly simple journey eventually uncovers a much darker threat lurking beneath the region’s surface.

Beyond that setup, the studio has remained largely silent regarding the expansion’s storyline, suggesting that more information will be revealed in the months ahead.

Free Witcher 3 Remaster Arrives in September 2026

Alongside the expansion reveal, CD Projekt Red also announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered.

Launching on September 29, 2026, the remaster will be available as a free upgrade for existing owners of The Witcher 3 on supported platforms. The updated version includes visual upgrades, gameplay improvements, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, updated monster behavior, a redesigned skill tree, new finishers, expanded photo mode features, and additional quality-of-life improvements.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that current owners of The Witcher 3 will receive access to both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no additional cost.

A Big Year Ahead For Witcher Fans

Along with the release window for Witcher 4, which is now stated to be 2028, the Gamescom presentation delivered two major surprises for fans of the franchise. Not only is Geralt returning in a brand-new expansion Witcher 3: Songs of the Past more than a decade after The Witcher 3 first launched, but players will also be able to revisit the acclaimed RPG through a substantial remaster later this year, without any additional cost!

With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered arriving on September 29 and Songs of the Past scheduled for release in 2027, it gives you time to start replaying the game again before you play the expansion.

The Witcher 3’s Legacy Remains Strong

The announcement has generated significant excitement not only because of the new expansion Witcher 3: Songs of the Past itself, but also because of what The Witcher 3 represents within the gaming industry.
